Team Aubuchon leads first extreme home makeover with Builders Care!
CAPE CORAL, FLORIDA, June 6, 2013 - The Aubuchon Team of Companies is honored to be leading a renovation project to help a local U.S. veteran who served our country for 24 years in the Army and Marines, beginning this Friday, June 7. Theresa Meagher of Cape Coral has spent the majority of her life serving others and now it is time for her to receive some very much needed assistance with the renovation of her home.
The renovation project, through the Lee Building Industry Association’s Builders Care, begins this Friday, 10:30 am, and is expected to be completed within 14 days. “We are very honored to be helping Theresa who has sacrificed so much to serve her country and others. This is our way of saying ‘Thank You’ to the Meagher family for consistently giving of themselves to help others, and most importantly, maintaining our freedoms with her military service. We are proud to be working with the LEE BIA Builders Care and humbled to help this family have a brighter future with a healthier and safer home”, says Gary Aubuchon, President of Team Aubuchon.
This is Team Aubuchon’s first comprehensive home renovation project with Builders Care. Volunteers include Carl Schmidt of Team Aubuchon who will be leading the renovation, several of their trade partners, along with a group of dedicated individuals. Jay Johnson from Bubbas RoadHouse & Saloon, a long-term partner of Team Aubuchon, has stepped up to donate food for the volunteers during this time.
Theresa grew up in this home and currently lives there with her husband, three children, and several family dogs. For months, the plumbing has been dramatically failing, and a recent kitchen fire made matters worse causing major smoke damage throughout the home. Even though Theresa has done many repairs herself, the situation has become overwhelming.
In addition, Teresa’s husband Mike, a retired juvenile officer from the state of Florida, fought cancer five years ago. Now, Teresa is battling a rare bone cancer. She also copes with the survivor’s guilt following her military service. The couple’s 18-year-old son, Teddy, who was never supposed to walk or talk, now only suffers with myopathy of the lower extremities and some speech impairments.
The renovation includes remodeling the bathrooms, complete with roll-in shower and handicap accessible fixtures, as well as new plumbing lines and new hard surface flooring in the living areas, kitchen and bedrooms; and new appliances donated by The Home Depot® Foundation.
The kickoff began Friday, June 7, with Carl Schmidt of Team Aubuchon leading the demolition team tearing down the existing kitchen and bathrooms, and installing new plumbing throughout the entire home. Construction is scheduled to begin shortly after, and will continue through Monday, June 24. A celebration is being planned for the final day.
